RTX 2070 vs. RTX 2080 vs. Radeon 7 - Is the Extra $200 worth it...?

Is the RTX 2080 worth it over the RTX 2070? Let's take a look in a heap of new titles and see if the extra $200 warrants the difference. Though is the Radeon 7 maturing too? We throw that in the comparison for good measure as well.

Results are right, although Division 2 was tested in DX11 (default setting), didn't think that DX12 would make that much of a difference for it. Regardless I will double check dx11 vs dx12 next time.

Thank you for including the elusive Vega 7nm in this test. :D

In this price category a used 1080ti @ $500 USD (as your previous video showed) is the clear winner for now. nVidia really needs to cut their prices on the RTX line by at least $100 on the 2080 and $200 on the 2080ti to get things back to reasonable price/performance.

Radeon VII ! ALL DAY LONG ! But Better wait for Navi specs first ! ;-)

I would chose the Radeon 7. I just can't get over the limited VRAM for the majority of the RTX cards. Turing is an impressive architecture, but I think that the limited VRAM hurts its long term viability. Especially at those prices, you want a card that's gonna last for a decent amount of time and not have to turn the textures down due to limited VRAM. I think that the launch of the next generation of consoles is going to increase the average amount of VRAM needed to run high quality textures in AAA games.

Your Radeon VII numbers are weird af. How are you testing that thing? Literally evry one else I see has much higher nubmers than you.

Brian, In order to overclock new graphics card you need to downvolt them first, and then try to overclock. My 1070 downvolted to 0.895 mV and overclocked to 1990 Mhz stable. It doesn't overheat and is stable through long game sessions. The same is true for new 20s series cards and Radeon VII. Raising power limit and trying to give more voltage is a thing of the past. All of those sensors detect high temperatures and make the cards throttle. My co-worker downvolted his Radeon VII to 0.980 mV, didn't touch the frequency at all, and he is getting better performance than you do with your OC (on 8700k).

When I bought the 2070 the 2060 wasn't out and the 2080 was around £200-£250 more.
I had a budget and the 2070 didn't push me over so I went with it.
The 2080 is worth it if you can afford it. People get obsessed with best bang for buck but if you do that you'll buy an Rx 570 or something. Sometimes you have to push the boat out a bit.
The 2060 is better value but I would still have gone with the 2070 because it's faster and I had the money. If I'd not been doing a full build maybe I'd have stretched to the 2080.
For some it's worth the extra but obviously it's not the best value card around.

I am 14 and I am about to build my very first PC. I am going to buy these parts and I am really excited:
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2H
SSD: Kingston 120GB
GPU: Asus Radeon HD 7850
CPU: YES special Xeon X3450.
(I should probably get a better GPU but I am lost on what to buy any help would be appreciated :D )

What I am hoping for is just like that Radeon 7, that Navi comes out soon and get Mac OS support. Maybe, then I'll upgrade my GPU. Good video and loved the music you choose for this video. (:

I've been loving my 2070 and picked for the reasons you said - 1440p gaming with the option of RTX based features when appropriate.

I know this doesnt portain much to this, but I just picked up an asus p6x58 premium mobo w a 4 core xeon and 2 gb of ram for 90 USD, and a 980ti amp extreme for 200. Gonna put an x5660 and 24 gb of triple channel memory in, and demolish my old ryzen build I sold to make this PC for under 500 bucks and have some left :)

Ive got a 2080ti and have tested new vs old. Unless you sprayed the components with wd40 to give them some kind of super boost. I think you have some .. um.. mistakes.

You should still include Overclocked 1080Ti and Overclocked 1080 numbers, it’ll be interesting to see how they’re doing against the Radeon 7

200 bucks more for an 2080 ISN'T worth it ! The 2080 is just 10-15% faster then the 2070 !

Great Video as it actually makes a case for a RTX 2070. As for the Radeon VII I think it's a bit of a silicon lottery as I've heard some people getting virtually no O/C right up to nearly 2200GHz on air! That said the results of the Radeon VII are a bit hit and miss - The card is apparently great value if you want to game and do some productivity on it.

I want to support the underdog AMD. I just love the settings they provide over nvidia.
