The Army had a Buddy Program where you could enlist with your buddy, go through training together and be together for your first deployment. The guy who survived talked his friends into joining with him and then he missed the bomb which killed them while he was walking point. He had survivors' guilt and a lot of guys with it either killed themselves or reenlisted to try to make up for it.

Survior's gult/remorse is a REAL thing in the veteran community that does not get discussed or seen by the civilian world (which makes it easy to discard). That is why I always say about this song/video: 3 soldiers died that day, but 4 soldiers were lost.

I think this video has less to do with how we treat our veterans and more to do with what we ask them to do for us. In combat, you watch your friends die. Families lose their loved ones. Eventually, everyone involved deals with grief in one way or another. For veterans, some move on, some commit suicide, and some deal with it through continued service dedicated to the ones that didn’t make it. As a society, it’s our job to make sure that their sacrifice, their grief, is worth it.

Just a FYI: Sabaton is Swedish. They started out as a traditional Swedish heavy metal band, and struggled to get a recording deal. They finally got one from an Italian label, and recorded their first album. However quite a lot of time went by (if I remember they said it was one or two years) and that Italian company never released their album. Since it was such a struggle and fight for them, they decided to go back and reimagine themselves, choosing to make the various historical stories of wars the focus of their music. Some of their songs from that original album gained new lyrics and at least one song (Metal Machine) they will still sing the original version.
