How to German Smear a White Faux Brick Wall- a tutorial on how to whitewash faux brick walls with spackle through the German Smear technique.

I did the same thing using the hardboard faux brick panels from Home Depot. That's what this looks like. I painted over the bricks using Brick and Terracotta paint color (wanted the base darker), then I spackled using Dap Dynaflex Spackle as it will not crack and it was softer, easier to apply. I wanted more of the brick showing through, and Dynaflex was easier to use for that. After everything was dry (few days) I sealed it with Home Depot's Varathane No Odor Floor Finish Polyurethane "MATTE" ....Bondo makes a set of flexible spatula  tools that worked for me. Great job guys!

You're supposed to use mortar, not spackle. Spackle is not meant to be exposed. Ever.

You want to seal with polycrylic not polyurethane. polyurethane will yellow.

spackle would be ok for interior projects, for exterior projects mortar is the material to use

wrong product, you use white mortar. "it's that simple" ... to do it incorrectly.

why dont you just paint it with white paint? you are just ruining the the depthe of the spaces between bricks?

In his bare feet? Why on earth is he using sparkle? That is totally wrong!
