A highly scientific taxonomy of haters | Negin Farsad

TED Fellow Negin Farsad weaves comedy and social commentary to cleverly undercut stereotypes of her culture. In this uproarious talk/stand-up hybrid, Farsad speaks on her documentary, The Muslims Are Coming!, narrates her fight with the MTA in New York and offers a detailed breakdown of the different types of haters she's encountered in her work. "Comedy is one of our best weapons," she says. "We've tried a lot of approaches to social justice, like war and competitive ice dancing — but a lot of things are still kind of awful. I think it's time we try and tell a really good poop joke."

Why is everyone freaking out? She never said comedians had to be politically correct or that they all had to fight for social justice, she's just talking about a cause she believes in. I can understand getting aggravated with "social justice warriors" and whatever, but is it necessary to dislike any video that even mentions inequality? Believe it or not, there's still a lot of bigotry in the world, and people like her are doing the best they can to spread awareness. That's awesome no matter your stance on it all. There's a difference between an extremist and a person who believes in an equal society.

I was unsure about watching this due to the dislikes, but after scrolling down and realising that the video had simply been over-run by the very "haters" Negin mentions at the beginning, I hit play and gave it a go. And it's awesome! :) I have always agreed with using humour as a way of encouraging people to think openly about the world around them, and I'm glad to see it's slowly being encouraged. Ignore the hate and definitely give this video a watch. Great TED Talk as always! :) Xx
