HONOR needs to get faster with software updates. Android 14 was released Oct 4 2023. We are approaching 5 months soon and still no Android 14 (Magic OS 8.0) on the Magic V2. Feels like how Samsung was in the early days, good hardware, slow software. Hopefully Honor can speed it up and make updates quicker.

I have a question that might be slightly different, i currently use a Samsung galaxy z fold 4 for absolutely everything and anything and it's time to upgrade so I've narrowed it down to the Magic V2 and Oneplus open. Of the two options above which of the 2 is the better for using as a hotspot? My fold 4 performs reasonably well as in being able to play my PS5 online with not too much fuss so at the least i need to be able to match that. Thanks

i bought the v2 after finding this channel and from what fat dad said i chose the honor over the open because a pocket freindly design was more important than the cutting edge camera tech and massive camera bump on the Open. now i have it in hand i can see i made the right choice and the camera has turned out to be just as good as the oppo find x5 pro it replaced. underscoring it so heavily because no ip or dust protection is crazy, you wont find me in the sea or on the construction site with this beauty infact i cant remember even having any phone out in the rain???? i know you need to keep churning out the content but this isnt it! to much iron bru???

Mike, I think you need to review on a rolling 12 month timeframe to be objective, esp given your love of Chinese phones (and given their often staggered release cycle). A great phone on Dec 31 does not turn to shite on Jan 1st.

..and if the phone was great a handful of days earlier, that sours me on your channel - was it all for clicks and hype at that time?

I personally feel Samsung are given too much credit for customisation. Goodlock is a separate app. Then you need to install additional modules. None of these settings load from the phone's skin. Xiaomi (I have the Mi 11 Ultra) has separate modules, but at least you can access them via built-in settings.

Finally, can you show us these awesome zoomed photos you are taking that lead you to so heavily weight your cameras on zoom? They do not come across in your videos..

Cheers for this honest review, all the big youtubers seem to be bigging this phone up and I nearly bought it after being duped by the "voucher" promos and the free b&o headphones. I think i'll stick with my S23 Ultra just now as it's still as good as the day I bought it. I do like gadgets though, but resisting the urge this time :D

Strangely the last update to my Honor Magic screwed up things a bit...deleted some of my apps and I can't seem to get volume through my hearing aids which I can with my Xiaomi Fold. A few other minor problems as well. Time to switch back to the Xiaomi until the One Plus arrives.

I completely agree Mike, it was a great phone and they should have released it middle of last year shortly after they released the Chinese version.

The update .138 just shut off my Mobile connection for Verizon in the US.. V2 has been great up until 2 nights ago when the update came through. have written to Honor, no response, have tried everything, nothing gets it working... Anyone have any ideas??

Bro wth? Two weeks ago you were banging on how great it is, now you've changed your mind - this was all after you jumping on your high horse bashing other youtubers for not being genuine which was the reason I bought it ahead of the magic 6 pro

I am in Australia and we get the 512 global version of the V2 for AU$2599 RRP, no discount, no bonus, nothing. Bad deal? Should I wait for the V3, being this late in the product cycle? I love the design but considering holding back my 💸

Does anyone know how to make icons bigger on screen, without using Nova Launcher or putting less apps on the screen? Cheers

I can feel what you are trying to say.
I bought the V2 two times. Rational wise there is no real good reason to stay with it. But there is something when holding and playing around with it that forced me to buy it again and now using it as one of now 3 devices 😂

Would you advise to buy this or wait for the fold 6?

What to buy. Honor 6L Honor 6pro or Vivo 12 pro. Headache.

Pulling the Magic V2 up on its chipset is understandable, but it perhaps would have been more informative to those who dont follow smartphone releases that closely that there are no foldables with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 yet.

Nor will there be for at least another four months globally, assuming Samsung becomes the first with the Galaxy Z Fold6 series in July.

So, criticising Honor in this instance is rather limited considering it will only compete against Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 foldables until deep into this year, by which point it'll have been globally for 5/6 months.

Having watched many of your vids, I finally jumped and bought the V2. i think right at the wrong time with MWC24 but the 500 squid discount helped.

I wanted to chip in my thoughts having used it for 2 days now. I am a little disappointed (perhaps I should have waited until this vid). It is fantastic and has the wow factor but some things I missed by not trying it out 1st.

The first thing that struck me is the massive boil of a camera bump, with no case the phone is so unstable sitting on the table. With the case it is much better but I am hoping for a case where the pen can clip opposite side to balance it more. i knew it was a bump but surprised just how fat it was. I know others will be similar but not a fan compared to the bump on my mate 20pro it's like driving a van.

Next disappointment is the screen ripple, most reviews raved about it. I find it noticeable especially when reading with a white background sitting on its foot. I also find it slightly distracting when playing games as my finger goes over the ripple. (I have the ripple horizontal).

Watching On YouTube I like having the big screen and having the comments below but have had to put ripple vertical for this and that renders the foot stand inoperable.

Not the phones fault but quite a few things, games in particular don't seem to scale well to the square screen. FC24 works as candy sized in middle of screen or cut badly so unplayable like a super wide screen movie on an old square telly. The chess game could have been perfect for this shape but fitted unwanted stuff around the edges reducing the effect of how amazing it would be to have an electronic chess board.

I am believe it or not slightly disappointed by the thickness it is much thicker than my mate 20 pro at least in feel and for instance doesn't really fit in my car phone cradle. Don't get me wrong still feels better in the hand than S23 Ultra but I have been spoilt for a quite a few years now with a slender phone.

I also don't think zoom is great but like the super macro which are pretty much the only 2 camera's I'll use. I don't often take photos of people and scenes but feel most modern phone cameras do a good enough job not to worry about them. The important ones for me are clarity when looking at something really close up like smd components on a PCB and detail when I want to zoom into something far away that I can't really see without binoculars.

Battery life seems awesome, perhaps even manage 2 days without needing to recharge although did get it sub 20% yesterday.

I concentrated on the negatives which are only really small niggles and absolutely love the device, most of the positives have already been said in your vids so saw little point in resaying them. I am now of course freaking out about the screen line issue as I planned to own this for a good few years.
