15 DO's & DON'TS of Blocking CROCHET

Blocking is the process of neatening your crocheted fabric, usually through dampening the worked yarn and pinning it to the desired shape. Blocked granny squares in particular have steady edges and a consistent size, where unblocked crochet blankets can be wavy and uneven in appearance. Which also makes them harder to crochet together. However, contrary to popular opinion you don’t have to wet your project to shape it, and you don’t need to go mad spending your hard earned dollars on blocking boards to get the finish you want. My do's and don'ts will hopefully help you make the most of blocking your next crochet project.

Thank you for putting this together. I've not blocked anything yet but I am nearly finished with this scarf and hope to make it look even better with blocking soon.

Some great tips there, thank you! I've only recently invested in a "beginner's" blocking set (foamy jigsaw puzzle jobbies with T-pins) as I didn't want to invest in something expensive if I wasn't likely to use it much, or while I'm learning how to block. It's straightened out a couple of wonky baby blankets I was giving as gifts - LIFE saver! 😆 I spritz mine using scented ironing water (I do be extra like that 😌), but was spritzing before pinning. I'm generally @rse about face with stuff tbh, so it's no surprise I was doing it the wrong way 🤦🏽‍♀️ I'll definitely be using some of your tips going forward 🧶 Thanks again! 😊

Thank you.
Do you even block 100 per cent acrylic? Do things definitely get bigger when they are blocked? So far I have mainly made acrylic garments and blankets and i have steamed them on my ironing board and then used my hands to shape. When cool I move onto the next section. I use my iron for the steam. What do you think? I've been crocheting a year, averaging maybe an hour per day. So i am still a beginner
