Excellent thoughts and perspectives. Clarification on what I was saying (because I often need to be clarified): When I turn on the computer to work, it is time to work. That is why I have arch on one computer so I can see the changes, causally work with them, and learn the odds and ends. The work computer gets rolled in versions once I am comfortable with the changes. That is what is so great about Linux is I have the option to do either one.

Great video and best of luck on the channel!

Luke: Master, moving stones around is one thing. This is totally different.

Yoda: No, no different. Only different in your mind. You must unlearn what you have learned.
Luke: Alright, I'll give it a try.
Yoda: No. Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try.

Strangely familiar ;-)

My problem with Linux is the things I like won't run on it, simple as that, I don't have an issue with UI or ease of use so much, it's software support.

a brilliant video and a great catch. generally speaking this philosophy of sticking to a known environment is universal, however, the thing is that the majority of windows users have neither specific deep knowledge of their current system nor complex workflow or rigid preferences they need to maintain. i call this use-case casual or generic as opposed to professional of recreational (gaming basically) - all they do and know is the start menu, system tray, desktop shortcuts, mainly to most basic apps like web browser or mediaplayer, and downloads and documents/photos folders, that's it. and they have all this with the exact same layout out of the box on any popular distro with most of the desktop environments, so there's actually no leraning curve involved for them when switching to linux.

the funniest thing is though you don't tell them to try linux because they never made the desision to use windows in the first place and they can't switch themselves anyway. you can only move their system to linux and offer some help, they won't oppose it most likely.

This is why I actually don't have a problem with Snaps and also wish there was an Appimage store and installer. Also why I use Debian/Ubuntu based distros. Just want stability and things to work without any faffing around under the hood. Others who are so inclined can do that faffing around and make things better for everyone else, but as a pure end-user, simple and familiar is way to go.

I want to switch to linux and I have dual-booted windows 10 and mint but until vulkan to directx or opengl improves im sticking with windows for now and use linux for 3d modelling and work. Can't wait to switch but thats the barrier for me. VR is also limited for linux right now.

the reason switched was $200, that was what i would have to pay to upgrade because xp could not run a video without a new codec, the new codec was not compatible with xp, so it was windows 7 or 8, as the computer was old an oem version would not be transferable if the motherboard died, so i tried ubuntu, did not like the loo, k tried mint and a few others and went back to mint, to say that learning linux was hard is wrong as i never used the terminal before and i quite liked it, but switching to manjaro and having to learn new terminal commands is harder than not knowing any in the first place, because ilgot used to the ubuntu commands

But there is not going to be a new UI for Windows 11... Or is there?

Everybody should just use Python.

I think you are skewing his point just a bit between a new user coming to Linux from Windows, and a current Linux user having adjust to the new UI release. To his point about taking the time to learn a new UI, if you have a workflow in place, and the UI has changed, now this impedes your daily workflow and can disrupt your deadline schedules, etc...

I think where new potential users are concerned, they are leaving a comfort level of one OS to learn another completely different OS (distro). There is a significant difference between "taking the time" to learn something new completely versus learning a new UI of a current system.

Yes your points are well taken, but in fairness to Switched to Linux's video, you are only focussing on a single segment which does not offer the full picture of his message in my opinion.

I can see the gen z haters forming on the horizon to protest this video. You mention "kicking the dog" and "aliens" in the same video?!? You are asking for the wrath of snowflakes. Just you wait and see. :-)))
