You need to put the block that you are splitting on top of a "chopping block". That will mitigate the "give" from the soft earth that the block that you are splitting is sitting on. The bigger (in diameter) the chopping block is the better it will work. Its also good to work on the far side of the chopping block so that if something splits very easily the carry-through of the axe will end up in the chopping block and not your foot!

Great video. I keep my brushes in the fridge also. Your extra paint on cuts and extra caulking is going to payoff for you, and a contractor would never do.

Make sure you put some paint over your caulk seen some cheaper caulk yellow over time from the Sun.
