You know what’s sad? I work in the movie industry and sometimes I myself can’t afford to watch them in the cinema.

It’s the blade runner effect. Movie lovers think a movie is super well known, that everyone wants a follow up, and that tons of people will go see it. Instead it’s a niche movie, not a lot of people saw it, and not a lot of people wanted another one. Furiosa and blade runner 2049 were great, but they never had a chance to make tons of money.

The fact is that Mad Max movies were never that popular among wide population.

we didn't need a Mad Max spin-off

we needed the story after Fury Road

How am I supposed to care if Hollywood makes money when I can't afford to buy food?

I took my daughter and Fiance to the movies to see the new planet of the apes movie and it cost us $105 just for tickets, popcorn, drinks, and a pretzel. The movies are to expensive these days.

The movie was clearly missing Javier Bardem saying “Lisan Al Gaib” over and over.

People pick and choose what movie they want to go watch. Tickets are expensive. Not everyone can afford to go see every movie with inflation the way it is

It costs $32 here in Australia for an adult ticket these days. $27 for a student. Cost of living here is through the roof. People would rather wait and stream most movies these days.

I still love how black adam is the metric for the box office lol

You live in a serious bubble if you genuinely don't think ticket prices and money are a major factor. Also $11? No, that's what matinee weekday prices are. There isn't a single theater near me where you can see a movie on a Friday-Sunday and not pay at MINIMUM $16.

People complaining about movie tickets prices but spend thousands of dollars on concerts.

Similar situation with Blade Runner 2049. Sequel/prequel to a cult classic ‘franchise’ that is beloved by mostly the small—albeit hardcore—fan base.

10 years ago, I would go to the cinemas about every month with a couple of friends and we'd be like looking at the posters and randomly pick one that spoke the most to us and watch it and be happy with it

Now because we have the vanity to watch most movies we desire to see on streaming platforms at home, we are thinking twice before heading to the cinemas

It has to be a movie worth seeing and experiencing on the big screens and FURIOSA is definitely worth it so I went and watched it

But to be honest I struggled finding a movie buddy to bring with me, all women in my family and female friends were like nope not my type, even my brother was like "nope not a fan of Fury Road so why would I like Furiosa?" And my cousins were too young to see it, I only found my 15 year old cousin to bring with me (who posed as a 16 year old 😂) for us to see it and we both LOVED the movie

I guess the main reason of the box office flop is the GENRE

The economic situation is worse than people think. People just don’t have the same disposable income to enjoy movies as they did before the pandemic. Most movies will struggle until there is a major economic boom.

People don't go to the theater anymore because of the quick turn around of movies being in theaters and then very quickly being available either digitally or on Blu-ray or 4K. Why pay inflated movie ticket prices and a small fortune for popcorn and sodas when you can buy and own it for cheaper like a month after it's in theaters??

I really have a good time with Furiosa. And I am surprised that Furiosa didn't do well at the box office.

The again you have to realize that most Mad Max films have either struggled or gain a modest box office revenue.

I know an alarming amount of people that refused to watch Fury Road just for the fact that Mel Gibson wasn’t in it.

I might have to disagree with the money issue. Fast food is still increasing. Dollar stores are closing, and there are lots of people who rely on the dollar stores. Recently, on the news Walmart and Target are trying to bring the prices of groceries more affordable because the consumers are complaining.

I loved Fury Road. I liked Furiosa as well. And i like the character Furiosa. But who asked for her own movie after Fury Road? Fury Road was her movie already. People wanted Mad Max. And the other people didn't care.
