The University Hospital Foundation's Virtual Expedition: Back to the Future of Organ Transplants

During this Virtual Expedition hosted by the University Hospital Foundation, Clinician Scientist at the University of Alberta Hospital, Dr. Michelakis, shares how research funded by the University Hospital Foundation may one day bring an end to organ transplant waitlists, making the dream of organ banks a reality.

Dr. Michelakis and his team of researchers believe there is a way to activate hibernation machinery that would enable organs to “live” longer outside the body, giving transplant programs the ability to create organ banks similar to blood banks.
