How to Clean your Pool Salt Cell with 5% Distilled White Vinegar

In this video I show you how to clean your salt water cell with regular white vinegar. It is a safe and environmentally friendly method, although it takes much longer.

For light build-up a soaking for a few hours should get good results. In the case of this cell I let it soak for 24 hours because the build-up was pretty severe.

Make sure you shut the system off completely if you are going to do the 24 hour soak.

Interesting how the Vinegar does not eat up the calcium like Muriatic Acid but just loosens it up and makes it soft. A solid rinse with a high pressure nozzle will remove all the calcium from the cell plates.

This cell had some thick build-up in the center and the Vinegar worked like a charm. Using Vinegar will prevent any cell damage and it is much safer to use than Muriatic acid. It just takes a long time to work. I found 24 hours will give you the best results.

I tried this a/c wanted less trauma chemicals thinking about the life and longevity of the cell, on a 1 to 5 this method is at best a 2, acid a 4, I could see this method if you did the salt cell very often, thanks for your videos

I have a pool maintenance company i've been using, and they wanted me to pay $600 for a new cell, and $300 for labor to install it. I don't know that they've even cleaned it. If this works I'll have to discuss with them. THANK YOU for your content - really helps homeowners!
