Catalina 30, SLYC 2023 Sailing Races (better audio)

Our San Luis Yacht Club, Avila Beach, CA, had 12 ocean races over five race days, June through October 2023. Our club boat Second Wind is a Catalina 30. Other boats included Voyager II, a Norseman 447 (Bob Perry design), Allegra, a C&C 37, a Tartan 3500, a Westsail 32, and another Cat30, Blondie.
Our club boat had three semi-rookie racers (second year) with me (Roger) helping out as crew and coach. We also had a rookie race committee PRO (who we greatly appreciate volunteering) who made some unfortunate scoring errors (live and learn), that were too late to correct, so Allegra was awarded the Avila Cup at the end of the season. However, correct scoring indicates our Catalina 30 got first place, by five points (26-31). The two longest races (nearly six miles straight line each, but more like ten miles of sailing) of the season were not included in the scoring because they slightly exceeded the club's two hour time limit. However, we won both those races on corrected time by several minutes each, finishing within boat lengths of the C&C 37. Pretty good for our old club boat with old dacron sails vs. the 37 with mylar laminated racing sails and veteran racers (decades of experience). Way to go Second Wind team!
