Imagine the mental gymnastics you have to go through to convince yourself that going to UCLA from Tennessee is a win

I just hope this situation doesn’t take 5 years to change. If it does I hope it doesn’t ruin the game

If he had stayed at Tennessee he could’ve earned millions as the face of Dr Pepper like Bryce but instead he got greedy and only has a 6 pack of Dr Thunder for his troubles.

When I first saw Nico play my gut feeling is that he wouldn't last 4 years. Nico being a tall and lanky type would be broken in half at some point when he tried to run with a career ending injury. I didn't think he would end his career at Tennessee over money. But if he does sign up with UCLA not only will he take a pay cut his cost of living will double. Seems idiotic to me but his handlers just see dollar signs. His performance at Tenn. was lackluster for a 5 star and I'm glad to see him go...

I'm a Tennessean, I don't hate on him for leaving. If you want more money/don't like where you at, go ahead, it's your life. Money and NIL will possibly ruin colledge sports.

The first two years should be revenue sharing only, like a rookie salary cap in the NFL. By a player's junior year, they will have proven themselves enough to earn NIL.

The fact that Nico and camp pulled this stunt without having a hard offer for more $ from another school is mind boggling! Full on amateur hour.

And it's not just college football that is affected by this nonsense. Basketball is also feeling the pain.

Don't forget, *his recruitment* already changed everything.
At the time, it was an unprecedented amount, & Tennessee got around the pay-for-play penalty they had just paid out by not naming him and *explicitly not requiring him to stay at Tennessee.*
Contracts have changed since then, values however quickly evolved to match Nico's deal, but we'll likely always look back on Nico & Tennessee as being the bubble-burster outright. 💯

The administrators and coaches can be excited all they want, but the fans hate this. And when we all tune out because college football is not college football anymore, theyre going to be wishing they took this more seriously.

It changed college football in that the ceiling has been determined. UT said, "No thanks and good luck".

Forty years ago, SMU's football program received the death penalty for pay for play. In another words NIL. In 10 years, there be 1/3 to 1/2 less the number of D-1 programs because they can't pay NIL money and can't compete.

For years I've been saying that there should be a minor NFL league. Like baseball, the players that want an education can still go to college and play, The ones that could care less can tryout for the minors. I was thinking the college players should get a weekly stipend but also much more put into escrow for when they graduated or if they got injured and couldn't play anymore. But NIL came along and the college game just went pro. It's doomed.

I agree that the Nico situation was absolutely necessary to see by the larger public. Again, Nick Saban complaining about players entering the transfer portal comes off as sour grapes. But when people see these "handlers" and their behavior, it really brings everything to the light for everyone.

Making money on your name, image and likeness makes sense when your name image and likeness is being profited on. When you are a freshman QB contributing nothing, your NIL should be 0.

Unfortunately the 2 institutions that can fix this, NCAA & Congress, I ZERO confidence in there ability to fix it.

I really feel that the powers-that-be in college sports, whoever that may be, has to set a reasonable limit as to how much a player can be "compensated" per year...its the only thing that will keep players from turning the transfer portal into a yearly circus fiasco for coaching staffs, teammates, and more importantly, the fans who loyally support their teams financially and emotionally...if it has to be decided in a court of law, then so be it, because this unabated greed will ruin college sports...giving young men millions of dollars is just inviting some of them to make bad decisions that could ruin their careers...1 mil per year should be adequate "compensation" for the most important players...just my humble opinion folks...Really Appreciate & Enjoy Your Shows Josh !

Well the issue is this kid is a real piece of work. He went through spring training camp. Thinking he has a winning hand.

Then tries to extort money from the program. Really glad Tennessee didn’t fold.
