Drone Rules in Norway! You Can't Afford to Ignore These Laws!

So can tourists fly in Norway? The quick answer seems to be yes! But there are important nuances and there are many of them! In this video, we will work with you on how to safely and legally use a drone in Norway.

We will also talk about the registration of pilots, examinations, rules, insurance, and prohibitions! And of course, we will not skip huge fines and even possible imprisonment!

We tried to tell it easily and understandably, even to those who are not yet a drone pilot or are far from the topic. Or maybe someone just wants to see beautiful flights over Norway! They are in this video :)

Flying Drones in Norway: Rules, Restrictions and Fines 4k

HOW TO USE MAP and CHECK RESTRICTED AREA: Many layers are confusing and some require additional study, but what you need are the following layers. Hope it will help. If you will have questions about the exact locations - let me know, and I'll try to help. Will update comment with changes and critical findings.

The most important layers to consider:
Forbudsområder for RPAS, Droner og Modellfly (Prohibited areas for RPAS, Drones and Model Aircraft)
Forbudsområder fra NSM (Prohibited areas from National Security Authority)
Prisons (prisons)
Vernområder (Protected areas like National parks)
Fly- og helikopterplasser (Airplane and helicopter sites)

Laws are strict, but not always authorities are so strict. There are three main sources of problems - Oslo center, Airports, and posting videos from restricted areas. The first two may lead to fines and loss of drone, the last just to the removal of content.

Finding rules for the different landscape protection areas is the most challenging part I've found so far, as they have very varying rules for aircraft. Everything from total bans to actually permitting you to lift off and land within the area. Most of them are very restricted though.

Thanks for this video. I have question regarding "Vernområder" layer, as I can see there are green and red areas on the map. Is there any difference ? Does it mean that only red areas are restricted ?

Hi thanks for your really useful video.
I intend to take my Dji mini3 pro drone to the Lofoten-islands in late February and have registered on flydrone.no. Also passed the a1/a3 test although appreciate didn't need to as sub 250g drone. Will also have suitable insurance in place.
Do I also need to register or provide prior notice to the Norwegian national security authority as my drone has a camera? The opening section to your link to Areas with sensor restrictions seems to imply this as technically my drone is a foreign aircraft but all guidance is in Norwegian.
Also separately does any of your other videos cover the Lofoten-islands? Thanks again.

Great Video! I am going to Norway from the USA with my family this summer and I want to take my Mavic Air 2 to get a few arial shots of our vacation. The registration and A1 license seems clear enough. But finding insurance is very difficult especially as an English speaker. I checked out UAS Norway website but it is kinda hard to navigate and I can't find any insurance link. Any insurance suggestions for my Mavic Air 2 for the few weeks we will be there? Thanks!

A question about not being allowed to fly over people without their permission. What if you don't intentionally fly over them. It just so happens that you are making a cinematic recording of a scenery, following a certain flight path, and then suddenly, someone appeared or walked underneath the drone's flight path. Is that equally illegal?

Is flying past a person equivalent to flying over a person?
