8BitDo Ultimate Controller is so popular that many reviews call it BEST or ULTIMATE Switch controller. But there're three drawbacks you should consider before you buy it.

The 8bit controller doesn't have any joystick drift issues as opposed to any Switch Pro controllers. This only makes it a better controller.

Aside from ergonomics which I personally have no problem with, all the rest of your concerns can be adjusted and configured using 8bitdo's app. you can also asign the rear paddle buttons to things like thumbstick press. The on off of the nintendo switch digital ZR ZL buttons is in my opinion a failure of Nintendo's design. In any case, the 8bitdo controller can be set so that you only have to tap it you don't have to push it down all the way (although you can if you want to).

Don't quite agree with the general assessment. I do admit the controller can be a little uncomfortable due to its shape, the bottom of my left hand occasionally cramped from time to time in my first uses, but I think I've got used to it. It's not a great thing to hear of a controller, sure, but it's possible to overcome, and it can still be, nonetheless, totally ideal for kids.

The texture on the back is also a little rough but nothing big for me to complain about. Other than that, I think it's an excellent controller. The thumbsticks, buttons and triggers feel great, with special attention to those back buttons, which are so satisfying to press lol; it's highly customizable on Switch (and you can do it through a fairly simple phone app), and it looks slick, especially on that base, which is magnificent for a very easy charging.

I agree with you on the holding experience. Not only is the shape weird but also the handles are a bit too short. On my control I always rub against my palm or the edge on the controller with my little finger. That's a bit uncomfortable, but the triggers aren't bad because they are analog. You have an app where you can set up at which point the triggers are detecting the pressure. So that's not particularly bad. Overall the controller is great but their are of course also some flaws.

Yeah, completely disagree. I find the ergonomics are pretty comfortable and are arguably better than the Switch Pro controller. I understand where you are coming from when it comes to the triggers but the controller can also be used for other platforms. Plus you can use the app so as soon as you press the trigger it automatically registers the press. The analog sticks might mace more tension but I prefer that. They’re also way more consistent in use. Then there’s the d-pad. It is way better than the Switch Pro controller. Last it comes with a lot features. You can remap the buttons and change the sensitivity of the sticks via an app, it has two paddle buttons, and its own dock. It’s one of the best 3rd party controllers you can buy.

I wanted this controller mainly because I game both on pc and switch and this way I would be able to seamlessly swap between switch and pc without having to resync everytime. And the charging dock was also one of the reasons I wanted it because if I just put it in the dock everytime Im done playing (which is just like putting it on the table anyway) I would never have to worry about charging it. The analog triggers are also + rather than a minus for me because again I would use it on pc where a lot of pc games use analog triggers and you can adjust it on the software to register the press much sooner so on switch it would count as press even when you press it just slightly and dont have to go all the way down. If you game only on switch then pro controler is obviously best option. But Im looking for a versatile controller that I can use on multiple platforms and easily switch between them without having to resync everytime and conveninet way of charging which both of those ultimate controller accomplishes. The only thing that makes me hesitate is the ergonomics/comfort level as well as the sticks having more resistence.

Feel like this glosses over a lot of the pros like a great d-pad, hall sensor sticks, customization software, included charging dock and pricing.

I feel that the hall effect sensors should be mentioned in the video, because it makes the controller much longer lasting. The drift issue is definitely a real thing with most controllers, and can ruin your switch pro(for example) in a few months, depending on what games you play(i play a lot of rocket league, and it demands good quality controllers). This one has them, as well as Gulikit KingKong 2 or Gamesir G7 SE, to mention a couple. The 8bitdo ultimate actually uses Gulikit's own hall effect sensors.

Love how gamers are all experts in Ergonomics

Ok but ergonomics aside, what about input delay? How does it compare to other controllers?

While this controller is designed for the switch, it has features that are more desirable in other places like pc racing.

Why do people talk about the triggers when you have 2 rear digital buttons?

I hadn't noticed issues with the shape, but that does seem worth pointing out. I believe the resistance you mentioned with the sticks is inherent to hall effect sensors as you're overcoming the force of the magnet when you move it. This did not bother me either, but it's been a while since I used another controller to compare. I was also using a different controller with hall effects right before getting this one. I'm surprised to hear analog triggers noted as a downside. The lack of analog triggers on Nintendo controllers after the GameCube has been one of the biggest downsides as far as using them with other things. If not for that, the Wii U Pro Controller was very nice as a PC controller.

I would like to see a version of this controller with PlayStation-style symmetrical analog sticks in the future, or an update to their old Pro 2 controller with some of these new features like hall effects sticks and back buttons. I got this controller with Splatoon in mind since you can bind bomb to a back button for easier sub-strafing and then keep your index finger on the trigger so it's easier to start shooting. I put jump on the other one so that I can jump while already controlling the camera and shooting.

I have my switch pro controller since release and have hundreds of hours of playtime and still nothing wrong with it, I think at this point if my controller broke I'm just gonna get a pro controller again.

The final point about precision and being careful or whatever is silly. You can increase the deadzone if you want.

There's nothing wrong with this controller
1- it's not fucking wide so smaller-hand people can enjoy it and no one use controller on the table
2- it's a universal controller the triggers are for pc.
3- it's hard to move the joystick because it has magnetic, it will never drift with the hall effect sensor.
You have the nonsense, guys buy this keyboard it's good for every use case and with every platform thanks to Bluetooth the software is 100% reliable, it's available on Mac windows, and also android.

This video is so bad. Mainly, your reasoning is portrayed as so absolute and authoritative that it watched more like a smear than a helpful video. I pretty much only agree with your point about the ergonomics also, the rest I thought was dumb and like you were grasping at straws just to have something negative to say. I'm not accusing you of anything, but that's how this video seems, and it's not very good for those reason. You have to at least try to give off the impression you're balanced and aren't working backwards from a conclusion.

i dont care much for those..but one thing i care about is the stick..they should put a metal ring to protect it from worn out..when the paint started to drop it will goes into the internal parts and that is not cool at all

There's one flaw with your agreement. The pro controller can suffer from drift

Thanks for this. I've been thinking about getting it, but haven't bought it yet, because I was worried the angle of the sides might be a problem. Seeing it in your comparison has (sadly) given me enough reason not to buy it. Maybe I'll get the kingkong 2 instead, as it seems to have better angles. The rest I don't mind nearly as much.
