I would pass through Durham twice a day while working on The Intercity 125 Trains as a steward in the restaurant and buffet car back in the eighties from Edinburgh to Kings Cross, London and all the way back at least 4 times a week.

Anyone recall the Kwik Fit advert from the 1980s which featured this song and ended with tagline "Sorry Durham" because despite Kwik Fit centres being in towns and cities across the land there wasn't one in Durham? It put the city on the map to friends of mine who didn't hail from this lovely town

Roger's command of geography was greatly off with the River Tyne, which flows through Newcastle, 20 miles north. Durham is on the River Wear.
