Payton Thorne to Auburn? | What Should Auburn Fans Expect?

Predictions are that Michigan State Quarterback Payton Thorne may end up at Auburn under Hugh Freeze. Robby Ashford and Holden Geriner are currently battling for the starting position after the departure of TJ Finley.

Hugh Freeze has been transparent about getting a quarterback from the portal, and Payton Thorne might be the guy. What can Auburn fans expect?

Thorne is the best available. Besides what has been discussed here, he has two years of eligibility left versus one for Thompson and does not have the injury concerns. As of today, teams are going to stack the box and force Ashford to prove he can pass on them. I think Thorne is good enough with the short to intermediate passing game to at least make opposing defenses respect it and force LBs and safetys to play it straight up. Thorne also appears to have a decent long ball as well. Even if a Freeze type QB was brought in I just don't think Auburn has the WR room to take full advantage of the passing game. For them, it will be do or die on the ground. With Ashford they are probably 6-6, with Thorne 7-5 or 8-4 wich would bolster recruiting efforts this year.
