O ano era 2001. Estava eu na faculdade sentado esperando meu amigo fazer sua matrícula. Nas cadeiras de espera aguardo meu amigo e ao lado um telão tocando uma banda ao vivo quando reconheço aquela música que tocava muito nas rádios, à saber take on me. Então me virei pro telão e comecei assistir o show. Um vocalista cabeludo com uma tiara redonda na cabeça segurando os cabemos e muitas bandeiras do Brasil. Percebi que era um show no Brasil. Em tempos de VHS pensei - que banda é essa que veio ao Brasil que toca essa música que toca muito nas rádios. A cada música que tocava eu curtia mais e mais. No dia seguinte fui a todas locadoras de VHS (que na época ainda eram muitas) e aluguei o mesmo show. Desde então nunca mais parei de curtir

This concert right here had me hooked from the moment I heard it, and it was a DVD of this performance which was my introduction to a-ha when I was a toddler. I'm about to turn 21, but I still come back to this fantastic performance quite often.

What better of a follow up isn't there than the 4th Dec 2010 Oslo Spektrum to be my first proper concert experience as a 10 year old. One of the highlights of my life. I was due to see them in Spektrum May 22nd this year (cancelled), but I'll cross my fingers for another opportunity in the forthcoming years.

As a musician (drums & guitar), a-ha has brought lots of integrity to my musicianship ever since I started playing drums at 10, to eventually picking up the guitar at 14. I play contrasting shades and moods of different music, but heavier (punk - metal) when I play in a band (drums). No matter what genre, the melodic part of it all is always the high priority. Although that sounds a bit paradoxical playing the drums, it's still played along melodical instruments. Playing the guitar is a big plus to understanding the dynamics between the two.

Anyways, I believe this concert right here has an especially big influence on me. You know how they say music heard and beloved as a kid will stay on forever? If you ask me, that is actually spot on. At least if it served, and/or will serve as an positive influence later. They are one fire here. Their sound in this concert oozes energtic rawness, more rock n' roll with a slight hint of punk (especially on Take On Me). This particular lineup sounds really well together, and to note, paul is smiling ALOT more, and his guitar work is really brought to justice. The Lindvall brothers (Per on drums, Sven on bass) is playing tightly locked in with eachother, holding the rhytmic section in check just perfectly. And Mags' beautiful keywork, assisted by Christer Karlsson, while Morten is really put to the test with this one, and boy does he deliver! The lineup and the sound here really suited the songs well. I truly admire A-ha for shaking up how their songs sound for every new tour, without the songs losing their identity. Amazing.

I'm positively happy to still have a-ha as a big part of me. The musical heroes of Norway will stay on with this fellow norwegian basement dweller (hopefully not basement dweller for too long, heh) right here forever.

Many thanks to a-ha for bringing forth melodic quality in their songs. They'll always remind me of walking my own path when I feel lost.
