Not only can they tell if you have cancer, they can tell a plethora of other issues as well. They can tell if you’re going to have a seizure, if you’re going to have an asthma attack, if you’re allergic to something and are near that allergen. Dogs can tell if you are diabetic and your blood sugars off, they can tell if you have an infection of some sort (whether it be externally or internally), they can tell if you have various mental health related attacks (like panic attacks, schizophrenia related episodes, bipolar related episodes, etc), and they can tell if you’re about to have an asthma attack, etc. Not every dog is capable of recognizing all these issues and even less are capable of knowing how to respond on such situations. Dogs are amazing creatures. One of our dogs (a black lab/Chesapeake Bay retriever) picks up on my child’s seizures, knows when the shunt that is in my brain stops working or when it gets infected, he knows when anyone in our family starts getting ill even before we are aware of the illness. He is truly amazing. Every morning (and this is gross but fascinating) he smells our breath and tries to smell whatever he can with our first trip to the restroom each day. It is like he is doing a breath and urine analysis on each of us.

No joke, that was on the list of symptoms when my dad went to the doctor and found out he had large b cell non-hodgkins lymphoma (he's OK now). Our dog was always a sweetheart, but that much attentiveness was definitely noticed.

Cats can sense cancer aswell. Also cats have a tendency to alert diabetic people that they’re blood sugar is dangerously low or high :) although dogs unlike cats can be trained more easily to be a reliable source to lean on
