It was revolutionary for its time, with nothing else in comparison for the UFO topic. It was loaded with so many aspects and nuances of the UFO mystery, that it has become a beacon, and a must-see movie for UFO researchers, old and new alike. But in the 46 years since it's premiere, what has become known about the scenario it portrays. Is it really more of a documentary than a movie..?

So here’s a fun fact for all, of the people here that like to travel and go camping. When visiting the Devils Tower and you’re spending the night in one of the camping areas, they play the movie every night. So there you are watching the movie, watching the spaceships fly by and all the time right in front of you just be on the screen, is the Devils Tower. Adds a really cool dimensions of the whole thing, right. Enjoy!

I visited Devil's Tower for the first time last year, mainly because of this movie. The RV park next to the Tower shows this movie nightly on their outdoor big screen tv. I just happened to walk up to the viewing during the scene when Roy is on the phone with his wife after she leaves him and the news is showing Devil's Tower on the TV. It was a magical experience to see Roys living room model, his tv and the actual Devil's Tower all in my same line of sight.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I’m going to rent it tonight after watching this. I’m in my 70’s. I watched it when it first came out. When I was a child my favorite movie was “The Day the Earth Stood Still.” It was made in the 50’s. It was very well done. You would like it. It had a nice message.

If you've ever wondered what young people did before the internet, Close Encounters was a great movie to see at a drive-in (when there were still drive-ins showing movies) and meet your friends on summer nights.

I liked this movie SO much that I even bought ALL the versions of it on LaserDisc, DVD, and Blu-Ray. I've got the 1977 LP (with the little 7-inch disk with the 3-minute disco song they included) and the 1997 CD of the soundtrack. I even bought all the incidental music (The "Square Song", Johnny Mathis' "Chances Are"" et al...) and have a playlist with all that interspersed with the soundtrack. My interest in this wonderful movie was from a childhood experience or dream. I’m 80 now and time dulls your memories. Took place in my home state of Indiana. I wil not go into it here. But the movie hit home. 44:13

I've heard that the Air Traffic Control scene (which I love) is so impactful because Spielberg used real ATC personnel...that scene alone speaks so much as to what still happens today.

I was born a year after the close encounters came out. But when I was around 10 years old I was chased home by a red glowing orb around the size of a football. That led me to watch the film and be interested in the unknown

I’m listening on my smart device… In a Japanese convenience store eating a riceball with coffee. A young man starts slurping his microwave heated bowl of instant ramen noodles, behind me.
I adjust my earbuds and volume to make sure my listening isn’t disturbed.

Another great discussion. I great way to spend a Friday evening after a very long stressful week at work. I remember this was one of my first UFO related movies as a young child. This movie and a show on TV called "Project UFO" (TV Series 1978-1979) is what got me into UFOs. And now I am a member of MUFON and my research and readings and of course watching shows like yours have solidified my deep interest in this phenomenon. Keep up the great work, its appreciated.
