Cloud service providers such as AWS and GCP offer hundreds of services, and sometimes it can be a little confusing to figure out what solution does what and how data engineers and data scientists might use them.

In this article, I wanted to discuss some of the services that are useful to know as a data engineer as well as provide a combination of real-world examples where I have used said services. I’ll also only be focusing on AWS for now.

So let’s dive into the cloud services you should know as a data engineer.

About me:
I have spent my career focused on all forms of data. I have focused on developing algorithms to detect fraud, reduce patient readmission and redesign insurance provider policy to help reduce the overall cost of healthcare. I have also helped develop analytics for marketing and IT operations in order to optimize limited resources such as employees and budget. I privately consult on data science and engineering problems both solo as well as with a company called Acheron Analytics. I have experience both working hands-on with technical problems as well as helping leadership teams develop strategies to maximize their data.

I would say AWS Glue belongs to the DE stack. Then there are more specific services like AWS Secrets Manager for storing sensitive credentials from Python scripts.

Hey there, thanks for the video! I believe you forgot to talk about MWAA, but your video helped me to reduce the anxiety about learning AWS.

Thanks for the video and really looking forward to the series where you demo how to build ETL pipelines using these tools.

What confuses me is all the different services that can do the same thing. Like for data orchestration I think of Airflow/MWAA, but then here you suggested Lambda+EventBridge, then I've also heard of AWS Glue which can probably do the same thing.

do you have an end to end project series where in you're using these aws services for our learning reference? ingestion to s3 using lambda then glue then redshift something along those lines

What's the difference between a glue job and data bricks spark?

I'm pretty good in Half-Life can I interchange that skill with AWS Lambda?

Was expecting a Half-Life reference. Nope, it's a AWS service.

Hi, hope you are having a good day.

I have been applying to many companies for Data Engineering roles in the US. But I am not getting a positive response.

Can you please help me out by just reviewing my resume once! Thanks a lot for reading out my comment. I know you're busy. Thanks again!
