Rolling Blackouts | A look at alternative sources of generating energy
Показать описание
We're looking at South Africa's energy crisis from all angles tonight.
And of course many are saying renewable energy is the answer.
There is an urgent need for South Africa to move away from so called 'dirty power' which is the coal fired fleet which provides over 80% of the generated energy. The Integrated Resource Plan or IRP 2019 is currently guiding the country's energy needs until 2030 - but some see it as outdated.
The IRP envisages that coal will still account for 43% of installed capacity by 2030. Wind will account for 22.5 percent, solar 10.5 percent. 6.3% will be provided by battery storage. Could a real push towards renewable end our woes?
To discuss we're joined by Energy and Infrastructure finance specialist Ruse Moleshe. We're also joined by the Founder of DNG Energy, Aldworth Mbalathi, as well as the CEO of the South African Wind Energy Association, Niveshen Govender
