BMW 3 Series (E90, E92) Battery Replacement, Coding and Registration

Показать описание

The battery on my BMW 335i has been failing for months now and I finally got around to replacing, coding and registering it. It's not a very difficult job and shouldn't take more than an hour of your time. You will also save at least a few hundred dollars compared to taking it to a dealer or even a local shop. Shop around for batteries as I found this great battery for $100 cheaper than local parts stores or even online! I show the process of removing the battery, choosing the right battery for your car, installing the battery, coding a change if the type of battery is different or the capacity is different and even registering it to tell the car that it's new. Please note that the functionality of the BM700 might have changed depending on which firmware you get. It may not be able to program different batteries, but it will be able to register a change.

Hell yeah bmw dealer told me 750 + tax went and bought the battery for 189.99 and used me obd2 scanner to code it in 🤙🏽 saved myself 550$ wasn’t that hard just need the right tools

Thank you so much for this video. I purchased that adapter and scanner. Battery was DOA and I was able to do this myself instead of towing to my local shop. Saved me $$ too. Now to drive it a bit so I can pass smog.

Very helpful video. I did notice that you did not use the small vent hole plug that should be placed in the battery cap not vented by the vehicle's vent tube. The small plug is attached to the terminal cover - you just pop it off the cover and place it in the vent hole that is found on the side of the battery cover (again, the one not vented via the tube). Thanks again for the video.

You need to remove the little red plug from the positive transport cover and use it to plug the vent hole on the opposite side of the battery. Otherwise all the gases are building up in the trunk as if there was no vent at all. That is why they include that plug.

Much thanks for the video. It's really useful to know a lot of this before going into replacing your battery on an E90. Few extra things I did was removing that red wire fastened with 13mm. Then take a picture of the interconnect plugs on the positive terminal assembly then remove and tape them to the side. It makes installing the large group 49 battery a little bit easier. That and watching this video beforehand.

The tips on using Bimmercode are great too. Only if you are changing Amp Hour (Capacity) or type (AGM or Lead-Acid). Additionally, it looks like even a 92AH battery is still in class as 90AH capacity so you can install a 92AH and just perform the registration with a scanner and you're good. If you went to perhaps 100AH then would need Bimmercode. Since getting a 92AH AGM replacement and I had 90AH AGM already registered, I just used my Schwaben 14020SCH scanner to do the registration and it looks like it doesn't even ask you for those two numbers anymore, it just registers the battery and I can confirm it WILL add to the "Last Changed at: km" entries upon registering. Thanks again!

Ancel says that the BM700 wan never able to code batteries. This is their recent reply.

You mentioned in your comments that you contacted them too. When and whom in Ancel did you contact ?

So I bought both the Ancel OBD Scanner and the Veapeak OBD2 one, I changed the battery on my 2007 335i with a new battery with different voltages and AGM This time. I managed to at least register the battery through the ANCEL Scanner but I do not have the option to change it to AGM. I only get (1) as an option and do not have (2) or (3). MOving onto the Veapeak part of coding, DFor some reason I keep getting the message that the device is not supported with my vehicle even though On the Bimmercode website it says that its compatable. Ive tried everything like updating the bimmer code app, reinstalling etc. but nothing seems to change

Thanks for sharing this video! I need to replace the battery on my E92 and this showed me everything I need. I was having trouble finding info about how to code a battery type change when upgrading to AGM.

I've installed a 100Ah battery in place of 90ah. Bimmer code does not have a 100ah option. Just 90 and 110. What should I choose? Thanks for any advice

Very helpful explaining that you can use different sizes, i was specifically looking for 36R size battery which is hard to find ones with AH rating given

Muito legal, eu utilizei o bimmer code pra colocar o tipo de bateria e utilizei o Bimmer Link pra resetar a instalação da bateria. 🇧🇷

Where do you plug in the Veepeak or Ancel? Do you have a separate video how to use it? Thanks!

Can you code the new battery using the BM700 instead of using Veepeak OBD & Bimmercode?

You mentioned an ANCEL BM700 Battery Registration Tool can code and register a new battery? Two in one?
