The most objective and concise review of the Boss GT 1000 Core: comparison to the Valeton GP-200LT. Only objective characteristics will be discussed. Tones are always subjective, so we leave them pure and unprocessed for the listener to decide.

Boss better than Valeton:
- can run two amp models at once
- allows some blocks to be used more than once, but not all (Reverb and Master Delay only once)
- has stereo inputs
- has two effects loops (theoretically allowing 4 instruments to be played at once through one unit)
- first ever 32bit AD/DA and processing at 96kHz sampling rate (Valeton is 24bit at 44.1kHz)

Valeton better than Boss:
- 2.5 times more affordable
- far more amp and cab models available
- more effects models available
- much more intuitive and easy to use (some Boss functions are “not immediately obvious out of the box”, as noted even in the guide itself on the Boss product page)
- unique controls for every amp and effect model (Boss has almost identical parameters for all effects in a category)
- more parameters available for every single amp and effect model
- more footswitches (4 vs 3)
- fx loop SEND and RETURN positions are individually adjustable
- larger color screen with much better resolution and visibility
- runs on standard 1000mA 9VDC Boss type power supply (oddly enough, Boss doesn't work on the standard Boss effect power supply)

Advantages that both Boss and Valeton have over other floor models:
- very compact
- passive cooling with no cooling fan (extremely important for long term reliability)

The Verdict:
The GT-1000Core disappoints in terms of variety, versatility, depth of settings and ease of use compared to the far more affordable Valeton. The GT1000CORE potential lies within its remarkable processing power, but its extremely limited list of amp models and limited parameter effects mean it's mostly squandered in our opinion. Future patches are unlikely to improve it much, because of its odd paradigm: novel amp modeling concept that does not lend itself to versatility, and purposely limited effects, likely to keep it from displacing their 200 and 500 series of effects. These market cannibalization fears will forever constrain it. The Core version is much better value than the older GT1000 large floor unit, but it simply cannot compare to the Valeton's flexibility and depth. Tones are up to everyone to decide, but we personally much prefer Valeton's amp and drive models to anything in the Boss unit. Seeing as this is a subjective opinion, it will not play into this verdict. But considering Valeton's overwhelming list of objective advantages, we simply cannot recommend the Boss GT-1000Core over it.

Hopefully GT1000 and Core will evolve with patches. Specs allow it, accounting impedes it. So we're not holding our breath.

We use Vintage guitars and basses! Some of the best reproductions of authentic vintage instruments, truly giving not only lazy F&G, but even the mighty Japanese makers a run for their money. And considering they all go for less than 600 bucks, it is incredible. Their secret: 1. wonderful build quality and attention to detail AND 2. High quality materials including Wilkinson parts throughout. Basically old designs done really really really well!

We use Klotz AIS cables! LaGrange and Titanium series cables are just what the pandas ordered for utmost signal integrity and noise free operation, every single day! They also have THE lowest capacitance we have ever seen for a guitar cable (65pf/m and 75pf/m respectively). It's simply the easiest choice to make when shopping cables: impeccable quality for reasonable prices, made in Germany, and they have short cables (1.5m and even shorter) too, with angled or straight jacks as you need.
