China has been producing wheeled infantry carrier vehicles since the 1980's. While they have had modest export success, VN22 is the first product in this category that could be regarded as truly competitive on the world market in terms of both features and cost, rather than just cost. Being developed as an export-only product will I suspect hurt its prospects though. Nobody wants to order say a few dozen of the things only to become the only customer and find out spare parts are no longer available a few years down the road. There is nothing like a large domestic order to ease the concerns of potential foreign buyers.
