I don't use mine very often, but when I need it, I need it.

I've been enjoying the podcast for a while; and I really enjoyed this video. Whilst this kind of demo wouldn't translate into an audio only format, this introduction, comparison between drill and brace technologies, and demonstration of technique is awesome.

I think that you have a really friendly approach to talking about unplugged woodworking in general, and that it comes across on video as well as it does on the podcast.
I'm looking forward to both your future podcasts, and future videos.
I like that both can be enjoyed in their own context.
Thank you :)

Nice share. I love my brace and bit, I am looking forward to getting more bits once the flea market season kicks in again. Happy New Year everyone.

I love how everyone seems to generically refer to them as a brace, specifically this is a sweep brace, nog to be confused with the “wheel brace”, (sometimes referred to as an “egg beater drill”…. Which I’ve also seen you using..

B&b comes into its own for larger sizes in thick timber. Turning the 1.1/4" bit with the brace is hard, but try that with the battery drill and you'll either stall the drill or break your wrist! Also the screw point bit is self feeding so you don't need to put a lot of force behind it like you do with a pistol drill. Handy if you're in an awkward place.

I was installing door knobs once and burnt up my cheap corded drill....but I was able to put the hole saw into my brace and finish the job-possibly running even better than my drill had!

That brace looks way higher quality than mine.
I'd bet it even makes the bit turn, rather than just spinning on it and making me frustrated with my misguided hipster attemt to affect nostalgia for a tool that was outdated before I was born.

By chance, do you have any brand recommendations on new braces and bits?
