European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, has arrived on the Italian island of Lampedusa, along with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
They have been visiting port facilities and a migrant reception center. Italy has asked Brussels for help in dealing with thousands of sudden migrant arrivals. Residents have expressed frustration with plans to put up a tent city, to house the migrants while they await transfer to other parts of Italy. Most are sleeping out in the open. Over 8,000 people have arrived on the island this week and boats are still landing.
President von der Leyen said the EU is aware of its responsibility to the people of Lampedusa and to the migrants.

How about the tax paying citizens decide who comes into Europe

All right, no one should be forced to receive strangers in their own house.

If they keep allowing them to come and stay, it'll never stop. They will just keep coming. There has to be some point at which they are sent back to their home country.

And, what have you decided? To let the entire population of Africa into the EU?

Look at that, the European Union deciding who will be accepted into Italy, instead of the Italians deciding who will be accepted into their own country. Britain left the EU because of this very reason, it makes all the shortcomings from leaving worth it.

Nobody can stop this, the past is haunting Europe. People will keep coming no matter what. No politician or no government . It’s been happening since 99, I doubt it’s going end now.

Why no one speaks about sending them back? is this such an out of the box thinking?

Poverty is not a reason for asylum. They need to return home and build up their own countries.

This will NEVER stop, especially if immigrants are not sent back like in Australia but distributed in Europe. We have dumb politicians, they will never either understand or learn.

I live in The Gambia, and many people immigrate to European nations. I can tell you that they don't suffer here. Yes, it is difficult, but no more so than in any other country. Inflation affects many countries, and I can tell you that the stable community provides a degree of security in my country that you wouldn't see in most European countries. It is quite rare for people to be homeless; there is always someone from the family or friends there to help out.

The reason young boys want to come to Europe is that they have a hard time finding jobs here, but that's an issue that can be solved without them needing to leave our country. Another reason is that they desire the "luxurious" lifestyle they see in movies or that their friends in Europe want them to believe exists in Europe. They want to have more money that they can send to their home country to build big houses, finance their families, not because their families would suffer otherwise, but because they want to live prosperously. I'm not blaming them for that; who doesn't want to live in comfort?

But most people could also achieve that here in the country. There are many projects targeting young people, and still, they want the "easy money" in Europe. It is their mindset that leads them to Europe, not their suffering or that of their families. They have it quite good here in our country. Certainly, it is not perfect, but there are ways to achieve something here. They just need to work quite hard, and that's what they don't want. But in the end, they are just like most people on this planet; they seek comfort over discomfort. That's the human way.

Mass migration into the EU needs to end. Put Europeans first. We need to accept and not discriminate against others of different races and nationalities, but we as a union cannot stabalise without limiting mass migration into our borders. It is simply not our job to deal with everyone at the same time

There must be a huge change in migration law all over Europe.

They are struggling economically back home, now they are bringing that struggle to Europe.

A problem that wouldn't be a problem if they did things legitimately. No food? no showers? well, honestly what do you really honestly expect? a bed and shower ready for each unexpected arrival?...
