I have the Fluval U2 and U3. They are decent filters with some minor issues. After about a month of initial use, the impeller and the cavity it sits in will need to be cleaned at least every couple of weeks, or the impeller will not start spinning on its own when you turn the filter off and back on. I think the impeller cavity is too narrow and gets packed with gunk too quickly. It can also be a pain to detach and attach the media housing to the frame and lock it in place. The U3 model specifically can be challenging to detach the media housing. I always have to fiddle around with it for a few minutes as it simply does not want to come out of the frame. I have to pull it up at a very precise angle for it to come out. Maybe it's just my unit, but I think there is improvement to be made to the way the housing detaches/attaches to the frame. Otherwise, these filters are pretty quiet and have decent amount of space for various filter media.

Tight unit. My only concern is if you are "forced" to use the carbon?

Hi, I'm looking for an advise. I'd like to buy an internal filter which would be really quiet (tank in the bedroom), for 125l. Important: I don't want shrimp and clown kilifish being sucked (I'm even considering installing some kind of net if necessary). Fluval u4 is one of the options but I'm considering also: Sicce Shark adv 800 (I read it can be noisy and magnets are crap)/ Eheim biopower/ Oase Bioplus Thermo 200 (I don't understand how water could go through all the media in this one and there's no regulation of direction of the flow). Heard that Tetra EasyCrystal FilterBox is very quiet but is seems like it's too big piece of plastic. I just can't decide which one to choose! Also I don't want a filter with exposed sponge as it gets so dirty during the maintenance. I'd be grateful for any opinion, thanks.
