DATA MOVES

DATA MOVES is a 1-day workshop that uses movement and interactive physical computing tools developed by University College London’s Interaction Centre to teach Key Stage 3 computing curriculum aims.

To start the day students participate in an accessible movement warm-up that is aimed at getting acquainted with the Binary number system. We then introduce and explore two different interactive digital tools created by UCL’s Interaction Centre and discuss what data these are collecting and how it is being represented and visualised. After this students work through number conversions in different creative and engaging ways. The afternoon is spent exploring ASCII and image representation. For the final part of the day, participants demonstrate their newfound knowledge by creating their own performance using movement and digital tools.
