"we are not in the business of selling. we are in the business of re-ordering." a powerful mindset shifter!

I love that he remembered people who helped him and gave back to them.

I’m homeless and working on a business right now, I needed this. Thank you, the signs are lining up, and I see 444 everywhere and doors I knock on are opening.

i made a notes from this interview for anyone that might need it:

-no matter what the rejection, keep you eye on the target.
-make a product that people willing to re-buy, not just buy.
-make a product that had improvement from the existing product.
-fewer moving parts is better.
-rich = happy + healthy.
-success = how well you do what you do when people don't looking.
-passion to work or like to work.
-you can't change the yesterday newspaper.
-"today is the first day of the rest of your life"
-make friends with kindness

I was homeless in LA too but real homeless. Not starting a business homeless. Simply circumstances, not really the result of anything bad. I got out by simply not accepting it anymore. Now 20 years later im a firefighter, dad, homeowner, ect and I still remember almost no one helping me. The cold looks, the disgusted faces, and the sheer coldness of the general population. I never once begged for food or money. I did steal food but it was necessity to survive. The sheer amount of homeless teenagers in LA is staggering and I still can’t believe I was one of them. Moral: be nice to those less fortunate.

John is such a great man. Notice how he continually speaks about how nice or kind everyone he had interactions with was. His view of the world and people is so positive it's no wonder he was a success. He saw the best in everyone he had interactions with and it was reflected back to him.

So much taken away from this interview. Such a happy, humble person that remembers his roots and where he came from. I love that he went back to that restaurant and generously tipped the waitresses.

Grew up in a family of hairstylists. Because of that, I've been using Paul Mitchell products since the 80s. Always loved the smell of their products.

He really is "The Real Deal" ... I met him in 2000, he was a VIP at the Hotel that I worked and he was very down to earth and humble... I used his products prior to and afterwards.. very refreshing for someone of his stature

This gentleman amazes me. Generosity, kindness and hard work. The three bedrocks of a happy life. I'd add to that, family. Thanks for the interview!

That conditioner that he made you put in your hands is my saving grace. It transforms my very fine kinky hair to this gorgeous beachy wavy hair that looks thick and healthy. I don’t need to blow dry it. I just position my hair where I want it and let it air dry… it’s magic!! I have been using this product for more than 30 years faithfully. If this product ever disappears off the market, I don’t know what I’ll do.

Yaaaay! It’s Jean ! I didn’t recognize him at first. Last time I saw him, his hair was dark. I did temp work as a receptionist at his LA office and he was so kind! He said hello to me when he walked into the office like he was HAPPY TO SEE ME!! 😁 I liked him right away.

To sum it up, the key to success is great relationships. Everytime this guy hit it big it was because he had a friend in a high place
