I think the hostel option with a private room gives the best of both worlds - you get the privacy (and hopefully lack of snoring that dorms are famous for!), but also get the social aspect.

We are on the go constantly when we travel, so our ideal accomodations are always based on location and convenience. Comfort and luxury are usually a distant third.
