Affinity Designer 2.4 Just Dropped! 🚀 Here's What's New...

Earlier today Serif released version 2.4 of the Affinity suite of creative apps. In this video I'll be going over some of the major new features.

It's pretty major if you use those functions. The affinity suite continues to be my best investment (program wise) to date.

The States feature is nice at first glance but it feels to me to be a complicated way to do what regular layers in other vector apps can already do much simpler. In those other apps you would just put the objects you want to isolate (text, icons, etc...) on their own layers, then turn them on or off. Designers "artboard as a container" type of workflow won't allow multiple different objects on different artboards be on the same layer. States in its current form seems a bit like a workaround to do what other apps can do right out of the box.

The resetting the selection box is going to be a great help! I hope that cycling the A/V shortcuts won't be a problem with a pen and tablet. A joy with a mouse though.

Nick, I really wish they would fix locking layers. Here's what I mean. Make two layers, add a red rectangle to each layer, lock one of the layers, select the unlocked rectangle and then go to the Select Menu-Select Same- Fill Color, Affinity Designer will select both rectangles, even though that layer is locked. What is the point of a lock layer button if it doesn't exclude ALL objects contained in that layer from selection? I work with complex CAD files with hundred of layers and thousands of objects. Locking a layer should exclude it's objects from selection. No workarounds needed. Am I missing something?
