Its actually brilliant that Itachi planned out this part of the fight. Releasing Sasuke from Orochimaru and the Curse Mark. Even when pretending to be evil, Itachi protected his little brother.

Itachi is interesting as he's really the only character in the Naruto universe who can recognize Sasukes growth in power. What's more interesting than that is that inside of that dynamic as a viewer you can apreciate some of the layered storyline as Itachi does, actually know Orochimaru quite well despite Orochimaru helping Sasuke.
