Fallout fans: “What’s wrong? No power armor?”

Fun fact: Slotin had moved the top half of the sphere closer to the stationary lower portion, a micro-inch at a time. In his right hand was a screwdriver, which was being used to keep the two spheres from touching. Then, in that fatal moment, the screwdriver slipped.
So he died because he used a screwdriver as a wedge for a nuclear weapon.

Fun fact after Lewis slottenheim knew that he was doomed he told everybody in the room to stay put tossed them all a piece of chalk and told them to write down exactly where they were standing. He then stayed there doing calculations to be able to tell them whether or not they were close enough to where they were going to die too. He inevitably came to the conclusion that they were all going to survive. But he was definitely dead. That's some pretty heavy dedication right there. Imagine that, you know you are definitely going to die in the next week or two, all you want to do is make the most of the time you have left but instead you dedicate your time to making sure to tell someone else whether or not they need to make their arrangements. That's heroic.

Acute, terminal radiation poisoning... not sure if there's a worse way to go.
Best case scenario is that they prolong your suffering. Your hair, teeth and nails falling out. Your skin turning into blisters, then infected scabs, then just falling off. Feeling so dizzy, like you're in a washing machine, etc etc
Nah, it's a lead pill for me.

How terrifying must it be to know you have just died and it'll take a few days to catch up, and all you can say is "well that does it."

Imagine while he was standing next to the thing he saw a pop up that said +5 rads per second

"Well, that does it"

Wow what’s that cool looking ball?
We call it the demon core!
Can I touch it?
Wickedstickyflowers
The part they didn't mention is the demon core was held in place, away from touching that thing you see it in by a screwdriver. Keeping it off was important because until it touched, it was emitting safe amounts of radiation. once the screwdriver slipped, the radiation levels increased to deadly amounts. Louis' immediate response was to reach for the core and move it with his hands saving the lives of the other scientists in the room, but instantly exposing himself to his deadly dose. After which he had them mark where they were standing so that he could calculate how much radiation each of them got.

They died.

"Welp, guess I'll die."

Well that does it
He knew radiation well when he said this

Those scientists didn't die. They became superheroes.
YoungGandalf
What’s sad is that he knew he was about to die and accepted that he was gonna die. It’s sad to see him say “that does it. I’m dead” is sad. RIP sloton.

"Well, that does it."
That's not giga-chad...
That's OMEGA-CHAD!
FinalBossOfCanada
To me radiation is one the scariest things in existence. It's lethal, invisible and unavoidable. If you get hit by a good chunk of radiation you know you're doomed but in the moment it happens you're still completely conscious and "ok"
Nick-rgoz
"well, that does it." is a mood and rad thing to say in that instance.
