Do you put God’s Word in your prayers to God? #short #sermon #christian

In our current collection of talks titled, ‘SHIFT,’ Pastor Louie challenges the idea that so many people hold: “My prayers don’t work.” He responds to this thought by directing our House to try realigning our will with the will of God, praying through Scripture, knowing it is God’s will on a tangible page, and praying bold, offensive prayers.
VERSES // 1 John 4:14-15; Acts 1:8; 4:20-28; Ephesians 4:32; 1 Thessalonians 5:17; Revelation 21:4

At Passion City Church, we believe that because God has displayed the ultimate sacrifice in Jesus, our response to that in worship must be extravagant. It is our privilege, and our created purpose, to reflect God’s Glory to Him through our praise, our sacrifice, and our song.

Discussion Questions //
1. Why do bold prayers begin with ‘alignment’? Try to reexplain this in your own words.
2. What is the ‘will’ of God, according to 1 John 4?
3. Why does Pastor Louie say that it is amazing that we can come to the throne of God “and not die”? What is the historical, theological context around this statement?
4. How have your desires shifted over time? Early on in following Jesus, were you aligned with God? What were your desires before you started following Jesus?
5. Pastor Louie shares, “If you get into His Word, you figure out what His will is.” What have you learned is a component of God’s will for your life and the world, according to His Word?
6. Pastor Louie recommends a great idea in “praying through Scripture.” Take a moment as a group and turn to a passage of Scripture and pray through the text. If you cannot think of a text to pray through, turn to Ephesians 1:15-23 and take turns praying short, Scripture-informed prayers.
7. Pastor Louie shares a powerful story about God’s supernatural work on a dark college campus. What does the thought – that God can do immeasurably more than we can imagine through our prayers – challenge you to try?
8. Who are the people you are burdened for, currently? Share this with the group so that you can be held somewhat accountable to be praying for them.
