My wife has been chronically ill for decades with a disease no doctor has been able to diagnose. We’ve been all over the state, traveled across the country, even crossed the border to see a famed Canadian shaman who only accepts Aunt Jemima’s syrup in payment for his services, but to no avail. I was really beginning to lose hope, watching my love slip away, just trying to cherish the last remaining days together, when I stumbled upon this video.

By gum, I haven’t seen her smile as brightly as she did upon hearing the first thirty seconds in what feels like forever. I think the last time was back when she was healthy, when she came home with me for Thanksgiving for the first time, and my late mother showed her my embarrassing childhood photos. I left it playing on repeat for her since she seemed to enjoy it so much, kissed her goodbye, and left for work. By the time I got back, it was still playing, and she was still listening happily, humming along. But not lying in bed, slipping in and out of consciousness as I expected her to be. No, she was standing, floating around the kitchen, watering our plants and moving her feet along with the beat.

I don’t know what it is about this video— the song, the taiko beats, the lag, or maybe just the essence of your soul laced in the time and effort you’ve put into creating this. I don’t know your story, or how long this took you, if this is a trivial hobby or your greatest masterpiece, or if you’ve ever experienced love like the kind I have been blessed with since my eyes met with my future wife’s across a sea of people at an Elon Musk concert at 22. But whoever you are, and wherever you’ve been, thank you, from the bottom of my soul, for bringing my dearest wife back to me. Now I can finally divorce her with no festering feelings of guilt due to her terminal illness.
