Glassy Batu Bolong With Swell - 28 July 2019

We normally only head over to Batu Bolong when the swell is too small too shoot at most other places. And that was the plan yesterday, so we were a little shocked to see head high sets pouring in when we arrived at 8:30am.

The lineup was still chock full of intermediate surfers, but there were a lot of set waves going through unridden. Conditions were super glassy until around 10am, after which the SE trade turned up for some cross offshore but still relatively smooth faces.

I used to surf here around 10 years ago pretty regularly, and if there were 20 people out across the 2 peaks, it was considered crowded. That car park was empty every day by around 9am as everyone was done by then. Same waves now but a very, very different looking scene.

Give me freezing cold water a full winter suit and 5 people in the water any day :) I've been to Bali twice and the crowds suck but the surf is amazing
