New 2025 Acura CDX - Is This the Beast of Urban SUVs?

Acura has a history of building off Honda platforms, especially for its entry-level models, and it looks like the brand is preparing to launch a new small SUV based on the HR-V. Bearing the name ADX, Acura's new small SUV will slot below the compact RDX and three-row MDX as its new entry-level model alongside the Integra hatchback. When it arrives in 2025, it'll compete with other subcompact luxury crossovers, including the Lexus UX, Volvo XC40, Audi Q3, and BMW X1.
When Acura revived the Integra for 2023, it did so by building on the same platform as the current-gen Honda Civic. The upcoming ADX will likely be something of an Integra SUV, and we can make a guess about its construction by looking at Honda's portfolio. Honda's HR-V is effectively a crossover version of the Civic, with the same engine and a similar interior layout. We can safely assume the 2025 ADX will be analogous to the HR-V.
The HR-V is a competitive subcompact with solid ride quality and generous safety features, but it's held back by its underperforming sole powertrain option. The HR-V's 2.0-liter I-4 engine makes it slow, even for an entry-level SUV, with a nearly 10-second time to reach 60 mph. Thankfully, the 2025 ADX won't come with the HR-V's unexciting engine, as Acura says it will be turbocharged. Acura might use the 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder found in the Civic Si, similar to the strategy it took with the Integra. Front-wheel drive will likely be standard, and there is hope that Acura will offer its torque-vectoring Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system, though some type of AWD system is expected to be optional.
Although the automaker doesn't currently build any hybrid SUVs, that could change with the ADX. Honda is introducing a Civic Hybrid for 2025 that will ride on the same platform expected to underpin the ADX. The new Civic's hybrid engine, which has been seen in the Accord Hybrid, delivers an output similar to the Integra's turbo-four. An affordable Acura SUV that gets nearly 40 mpg sounds appealing.
From 2016 to 2022, Acura built a CDX based on the previous-generation Honda HR-V, but it was only sold in the Chinese market. In North America, the entry point to Acura's SUV lineup has been the RDX since it debuted in the 2007 model year.
The 2025 Acura ADX is expected to be priced slightly above the Integra, following Honda's strategy with the Civic and HR-V. This would position the ADX to start around $33,000 and to top out near $40,000.
