How effective is pepper spray in stopping an assault? How do you use pepper spray? Watch and learn! Been sprayed and have sprayed others. It usually works, however I have seen it not work. One drawback is you may get yourself if the wind shifts. Also, I have seen some who can fight through it's effects. However, I do recommend it for those who do want a less than lethal alternative.

As a retired Texas police officer, I have pepper sprayed and tazed many arrestees through my career. These two non-lethal options don't always work. Some of the ex-convicts are so used to getting pepper showers in prison that regular pepper spray won't work. Just like tazers they sometimes don't have any effect on the person at the receiving end. So just like any weapon (non-lethal or lethal), they may not always work.

I started carrying pepper spray months ago as a non lethal option of self defense. Not every situation requires a 9mm round. And Tim looks like me after my second trip through the CS chamber in AIT.

I always carry my pepper spray. Personally, I prefer spray with a flip-top safety though. I've had too many instances where I empty my pockets at home and out comes the Pepper the safety rotated and ready to spray inside my pocket if I move wrong.

It makes a big difference when you know you are going to be sprayed, than If you catch someone straight in the eyes, nose and mouth, I use several products, such as pepper gel, and 3 in 1 sprays that have not only red pepper but CS Military tear gas, and an invisible ultra-violet dye for police identification, I've been using Sabre products for 45 years, and I'm an ex-LEO and, IMO, they are the best products out there. 🇺🇸

As a cop we had to get sprayed once a year back in the old days as if we were going to forget what it felt like. I'm retired now and I carry the gel as well as my concealed handgun. Pepper spray is an important mid level threat weapon if used properly. Stay safe my friends.

I'd use/carry Pepper Gel. It's more effective. Less affected by wind, sticks to the threat/assailant, etc.

I once stopped an idiot trying to steal from me using my pepper spray. Instantly, he covered his face, allowing me to get away because he became 100% immobile.
That's one thing these vids don't show: Their honest, unscripted reaction. In these vids, they know it's coming, so they squint their eyes. A thief has his eyes absolutely wide open... more surface area to get hit.
Another thing these vids don't cover is blowback. If the person you're spraying is upwind, you will get some of it back.
So spray and flee immediately yourself. Just the mist irritates the eyes and lungs, and be sure not to touch your face with your trigger hand before washing it because it's also covered in it.
