In this episode Lewis is 24 years old, a published author, and has completed his third term as a student at Oxford studying Old English/Anglo-Saxon. He achieved a First (First Class) score in all three of his terms at Oxford, 'Mods', 'Greats', and now 'English', all while helping support the household of Mrs. Moore, his deceased friend's mother with whom he secretly lives in Oxford, along with Mrs. Moore's daughter Maureen.
He has been keeping a diary of his daily life at the request of Mrs. Moore.
