Shouldnt the formula in 1:41 be 2^n(n is exponent) instead of 2n. 2n worked for both of your examples(2-chlorobutane and 2, 3, 4 hydroxybutanal) because 2^1 is equal to 2 times 1 and 2² is the same as 2 times 2. However, if you use 3 or more chiral centers, 2n will not work. Please correct me if i am wrong.

At the very end you mentioned that enantiomers are optically active but that only applies if the mixture is not racemic right? Because a racemic mixture would cancel out the opposing rotations that they create, making it optically inactive. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi MSJ chem, do cis/trans and E/Z isomers also fall under the category of diastereomers since they are not mirror images and non-superimposable?

If so, the fact that diastereomers have at least two chiral centres would be false.
