Winter sowing works great here and we are in zone 3. I grew some beautiful lupin one year and they are still growing in my flower bed every summer. ❤

Tessie, I don't have a greenhouse, but do you think I could plant the spinach and put a heavy plastic tent over it? Thanks. Love, Susan❤😊

Hello Tessie. Good to be here and see you preparing for spring. It's your favorite thing to do. Yeah! African daisies and poppies are pretty. My mother-in-law always grew poppies and another plant I've heard you talk of, called lovage. It was planted outside the farmhouse kitchen. Your spinach will grow well, I'm sure because you always have luck with it. Thanks for your visit. ❤

I just had a class on this at our library. Planted cone flower seed. Will probably try some other plants since so easy.

Family and friends save containers for me from their nursery plants they purchase. I reuse them for years. I have also used the red plastic tumblers also. I drill holes in the bottom. Those work well for tomato plants.

You may need to add a grow light to your greenhouse if you have very many dark winter days left. Many people start/germinate the seeds indoors and move them outdoors in March or April. I have set up an entire grow station in a spare room to germinate & start seeds year round. Once the seedlings are big enough I will move them out to the greenhouse under grow lights & eventually outside.

Love that you are winter sowing and using your green house to grow in the winter. We yse to get the really small electric heaters to go in the greenhouse. If heated you can even grow tomatoes and peppers and melons. Get an early start on your luffas. Your small solar boxes would be great for the little heaters. Have a blessed day Friend

We're going to do this. Your tomato and green bell peppers will do better if you plant them deep. Our roots were showing. They didnt go so well.

I have used milk jugs with the bottom cut out to place over plants once they are planted in the garden. That way it keeps them a little warmer in the evenings. With out growing season in southeast Iowa, we plant Mother's Day weekend, but it can still be cool at night. I start my tomato plants indoors by the end of February. I set those under green lights.

I did winter sowing years ago with great success… lots of vegetables got a head start so worked like a charm.

I reuse containers in my greenhouse too! The container the Costco chickens come in work wonderful since it comes with a clear top. I also use clear containers that salad greens come in. Friends and relatives save them for me. I also offer to put plants in there for them if they want me too. My greenhouse is 10'x12' so I have plenty of space for seedlings. The milk cartons are a great idea since you have a little more room for taller plants.
