These are the principles that made Singapore what it is today - yes I agree every place have it’s shortcomings but for the time I lived in Singapore I loved it so much and I appreciate it even more for its safety, efficiency, cleanliness and quality of life (much much better than major US / CAN cities, Australia and Europe personally for me).

This speech should be made to listen in our parliament. What a shame the way our ministers live lavishly on public money when more than half our population is poor. Our priorities are not the poor people but yes temples, statues.

Singapore May have its own issues but you guys are extremely lucky have the bunch politicians that you have. Also the judiciary system and institutions.

Ex president of Sri Lanka, Mahinda Rajapakshe stole $35 Billion from public funds and still wants to come into power.

Sri Lankan politicians get houses, a fleet of duty free cars, free hospital care at Queen Elizabeth’s in Singapore, govt pensions.
Rajapakshe family once controlled 70% of the budget.
His younger brother made 10% commission from every tender that was awarded for construction etc.

As Singapore citizens you guys have no idea how blessed you all are.

LKY is one of my hero’s.
Also many Tamils of Sri Lankan origin helped built Singapore.

In my country, politicians are not paid much, but most of them earn 10x or more than their counterparts in Singapore. That is why we call them" Crooks".

I’m perplexed as to why majority of civil servants are paid 13 months salary plus 1 or 2 months as variable bonus, for a total of 14 to 15 months salary per annum, and their salaries are not high as they are paid similar to market rates. While ministers are paid up to 20 months per annum. With basic salary of $55, 000, that is $1.1M per annum. Shouldn’t the bonus system be the same for all?
