"Java is old..."
Cries in 40 year old C which compiles to some of the fastest machine code I've seen.

It's great when they discuss "old java" vs "new swift" without any, even basic, understanding of the topic.

First of all, Android is not written in Java, parts of it are.
Java was the way to write apps and services in Android before Kotlin came along.
Similarly with iOS, Objective-C was the way to write apps before Swift.

Parts of both Android and iOS are still written in C.

And at last and I can't stress this enough that you can't speculative something solely based on the programming languages no matter if they are old or new. There's is MUCH more to it and it's not that simple.

Damn, Marques and David are getting absolutely torched by the comments! 😂

The actual underlying operating system for iDevices and MacOS (Darwin) is coded in C, which is a really old language. Does that make it bad? No. Linux underpins Android and is also coded in C. This "Java is old" comment is ignorant. The language has nothing to do with whether or not Google can create a good experience on Android. In fact Google writes their entire own Java runtime for Android (ART, which is fairly new) and modern Android apps are often written in Kotlin, not Java.

I thought Marques’ general audience were normal people interested in tech.
Turns out the entire audience is programmers and computer scientists.
Lmao

The point about about Java being 'old' is actually an ignorant one, no disrespect. C is a very old language, yet it underpins the architecture of virtually all modern systems, including iOS and Android.

I can not overstate how much these two have absolutely no idea what they're talking about here

That Java vs Swift argument is so annoyingly flawed

these guys should stick to review stuff...once they start going down the technology rabbit hole...they seem to be lacking in depth knowledge.

Samsung "avoid confusion" by not giving more android updates to exynos, but on the other side add confusion by launching 20-30 phones in a year.

People who don't know about tech and how it works and only knows what every consumer knows talking like they know how it works, truly a videographer on youtube with a "tech" channel move

I would say this gen 1 would get a pass from me even if its not as good, but if they mess up on gen 2 then i would be disappointed in google.

I am praying for Pixel to optimize via having full stack control. I am PRAYING for them to do this. Let's go ultra smooth Pixel for years and awesome battery life !

2:01 android is mostly written in c and c++, the same as ios. android apps are usually either written in java or kotlin, whereas ios apps are written in objective-c or swift, but not the operating systems themselves

Omg "java is bad because it's old" such an expert

In contrast to the opinion in the podcast, Java is not old, it still receives updates and is still maintananced. FunFact: In the screenshot of 2:08 the stable Java version is more recent than the stable Swift version.

Because something is old, does not mean it's slow! Please research something before just saying it. This is a least expectation from a tech channel

As a Vanilla Android fan, I'm really looking forward to seeing what the 6th Gen Pixels will be like. I went from a Nexus 4, to a Pixel 2XL, and it seems like 4 year intervals between upgrades is working out well for me at least.

I switched to Pixel 5 last year and it's my favorite phone I've ever owned. Doesn't have the craziest specs but the bloatless, clean OS and deep ecosystem integration sold me. Probably will skip Pixel 6, but definitely will replace with another Pixel in a few years.
