Should You Buy The i5 9400F? - Brief First Impressions

The Intel Core i5 9400F didn't create much of a buzz when it launched and this is understandable considering not much has changed since the 8th gen 8400 launched last year. So who might want a processor like this, especially when AMD's Ryzen 5 2600 seems like the superior choice at this price point?

Back then it was simple. You want to game? Just buy an i5. Then Ryzen arrived. Now AMD is a choice. I like it. Competition will no doubt make both companies make better CPUs.

I have the ryzen 5 2600 @ 4.1ghz with 3000mhz 16gb of RAM and it runs like a dream paired with a 1070. I game, Photoshop and edit video all with no problems.

A ryzen 7 1700 (here in Greece) costs 140€ and r5 2600 costs 140€ too

I have 9400F and actually love its performance - it is paired with 1080ti and 16gb ram

But for the gamers I think 9400Fis the best CPU under budget

Yaas 16gb of ram! Yeees, now were talking! And the 8400 Is great for encoding using the iGPU for quicksync Encoding, unless you´ve got an Nvidia card then you use NVENC since it´s better quality and faster, but quicksync is better than raw cpu encoding anyway.

Something you forgot to mention. For content creation, the iris pro graphics on the normal i5 9400 will help in Adobe software for rendering speed.
