Morphy may be the GOAT in my opinion. No engines, no books, no games to be recalled by an extraterrestial memory. Just brilliant, innovative unadulterated chess and nothing else...

One of the biggest what-ifs in history is if Morphy had computers and advanced theory to work from with his pure natural understanding of the game. He probably would have been the greatest player in history given how little time he had to seriously work with the game and the low level of competition to truly refine his skills.

Reaching the 8th rank with the King is pretty legendary too

I think Morphy was born with Stockfish inside his brain. Very nice video tho!

Its sad that we will never know what Morphy’s final form looked like.

1:19 Retreating the bishop to f8 doesn't protect the b7 pawn. You are on the wrong side of the board.

He was magnus who was just born too early

At the end of each game, could you wait a couple seconds before moving on for folks to linger on the final move? Other than that, the pacing is good.

It's amazing that Morphy had only a limited number of chess books to study from (if he did at all) but yet develop chess theory himself. He was just 12 in this game, and would sacifice pieces to checkmate. Most players do not want to sacifice a piece, but his extraordinary calculating and creative play makes his games very excting to study. He was the best of all time.

Imagine if he had faced Tal instead, it would have been called the "THE GAME OF THE CENTURY"

Great video and great selection of Games. I'm a Newbie to Chess at 52 And only just learnt castling correctly.... sort of anyways. Memory rather poor these days.
Haven't watched many Chess games and only of the past GM's. Haven't watched any of the modern players at all.
Paul was a natural Chess genius. Watching several of his famous Chess games, it seems that Booby Fischer was heavily influenced by Paul's strategy and method of play, namely attacking.
From my rather limited knowledge and observations, I personally believe that Paul, Sultan Khan and Bobby Fischer are amongst the top five GOAT Chess players.

I’m form New Orleans Morphy is my idol as chess player before Mangus you had Morphy even Bobby Fisher said the greatest chess player ever was Morphy. The way he beat people he played rapid chess in classical chess. He didn’t care what you tried to do he just disregarded it for his gain

A Paul Morphy game will never let you down. Always fireworks on the board.

Morphy had a big inheritance essentially and didn’t need to work. He tried to start a law practice but didn’t stick with it.
