Abuse and neglect will kill any ratchet.

I bought a brand new Matco ratchet off eBay and I think the handle wasn’t machined properly where the locking mechanism fits because it won’t engage. Tried swapping the locking mechanism and Matco even sent me a new head for the ratchet, but it must be in the handle. I will say though, I’m impressed at matcos service. I requested the parts through Instagram and they were sent out free of charge with no proof of purchase

Never had any issues with any of my matco ratchets other than when I adapted a 1/2 inch to a 1 inch drive socket and used a 4 foot cheater pipe. Knowing it was going to break but just not wanting to get the right tool.

The matco ratchets i own have come off other tool trucks after warranty trade ins. Got em all dirt cheap. However, i never push my luck with them, as i figure people must give up the warranty repaired ratchets for a reason. I do push my snap on and lone old school cornwell ratchet. Noticed my matco dealer can't consistantly stock repair kits either😏.

bought one matco 3/8 long flex head. it broke taking out an alternator. threw it in the garbage, bought all snap on ratchets and never looked back.
i have a long 3/8 locking flex head carlyle ratchet from napa that did more work than the matco.
never again.

I would break mine once a month. When my matco guy came every week. I didnt mind. it was slimmer and could get into a lot of spaces. Now that he doesnt come around I bought Snap-on and have never been happier.

I’ll be honest I think they need to step up quality control for the pawl…I’ve had the exact same situation twice and this last pawl has been doing phenomenal. I keep a repair kit for it in my box because you never know 🤷‍♂️

Most Every matco I’ve ever owned took a shit. Except a few 1/4

Matco stuff is always breaking, for the money I'd stick with MAC

Man i owned the longest handle 1/2" matco and i wasn't even sending it, i could not keep the guts in the thing. The last time i ever used it i was turning over a little diesel and all the sudden no ratcheting pawls were stripped. and the 14" (i think) 3/8 i bought it for slack adjusters. Couldn't keep the thing in one piece.

Ran my matco ratchet over with an 80 ton set of doubles held up just fine.

Those gears are a warranty thing if you had no clue. It’s an issue with all aj manufacturing ratchets. There is a fix. Ask your local distributor

I have 12 matco ratchets I have yet to break a single one. How did you even do that?
