Day Trip to Tulum - Kaan Luum Lagoon and Playa Paraiso (30)

Показать описание
Tulum is one of our very favorite cities in Mexico. It is a relaxed and bohemian beach town that is inviting and underdeveloped. It is what Playa del Carmen was 15-20 years ago. Our time in Tulum was limited so we decided to visit Kaan Luum Lagoon and Playa Paraiso. There is so much more to see and do in Tulum though, and we recommend a full weekend if you have the time to spare.
Getting there by car:
Kaan Luum Lagoon is about a ten minute drive south of Tulum if you take Highway 307 south from Playa del Carmen. There will be a sign for it on the left hand side of the highway. Keep your eyes open for it though, because if you blink you will miss it. You will turn left off the highway when you see the sign.
Playa Paraiso is just south of the Tulum ruins on the same road. Take highway 307 south from Playa del Carmen and turn left on Avenida Coba and left again at the roundabout where the Tourist Police station is located. If you turn right at the roundabout, you will be going toward another very charming area of Tulum that is filled with Beach Cabana hotels, boutique hotels, quaint shops, and restaurants. To get there by bus: you can take the bus "collectivo" or ADO to Tulum and hire a taxi to take you to the beach.
Tulum Ruins: Although we didn't visit the ruins during this visit, we did get some amazing aerial footage. Take Highway 307 south from Playa del Carmen. When you enter the town of Tulum you will see a parking lot and signs for the ruins but this is just for buses. The parking lot and car entrance is farther up on the left side with a large “Tulum” sign in yellow and it will say parking. Getting there by Bus: You can take the bus "collectivo" from Playa del Carmen to Tulum. Make sure the driver knows you are going to the ruins in Tulum. The ruins stop comes first. If you miss it, it will cost about 40 peso to take a taxi back to the ruins from the center of Tulum. The colectivo is about 15 minutes faster then the ADO bus and cheaper, but not as comfortable. ADO buses leave every hour. Be sure to check the schedule for the return. They do not return to Playa until 1:40 pm.
Costs:
Kaan Luum cost us 50 pesos/person to swim. If you want to dive, it is 200 pesos/person. It is another 200 pesos to fly a drone over the lagoon.
Playa Paraiso beach cost us 50 pesos to rent an umbrella for the day.
Eating out:
Tulum has no shortage of trendy as well as traditional Mexican restaurants. We had lunch at El Vegetariano which is located on highway 307. We had two entrees, a beer, and a smoothie and it cost us 400 pesos including tip. They also have a subway along the highway in case you are looking for something quick and easy.
Our time in Tulum was very short but very enjoyable. We only wish we had more time to spend exploring.
