I actually sprained my back when I was younger. Didn't wear my seatbelt and bus hit a bump so hard I flew up and whacked my back against the roof of the bus

The day they can build a fireproof school bus is the day busses will have seat belts. The end. Period.

I used to love when people would stand up and the driver would make them go flying. None of the buses I was on had seatbelts. 😂😂

I would only require them in the first 4 rows for the students who’s parents request their child wear a seat belt and obviously have secure areas to strap in students in a wheelchair if your school bus has a lift installed, have them available but don’t force the majority of of students to wear them unless you have a request from the parents. I think more cameras with ways to keep the lenses clean would be more beneficial for safety. Is a child in your blind spot, did they attempt to grab something from under the bus did their backpack or something else get trapped in the bus door. Things like this have happened in the past and with a system of cameras alarms and software maybe some or all can be prevented I would also have an alarm that requires a key to reset to ensure no child fell asleep on the bus and didn’t get off at school or their home bus stop location. If not reset an alarm will go off and all lights will flash until the bus is checked and it’s reset or the battery dies.

Most of our buses don’t have seatbelts as far as I know other than a white mini bus. On the rare occasions that I ride the mini bus, I have worn a seatbelt belt most of the times I’ve rode on it. I say most because the thing is that the school doesn’t really care about the seat belts. They’re usually inside the seat or dangling and just messy in general. So sometimes, I can’t find both pieces of the belt. And they’re so old that the tethers to tighten or loosen the belts don’t do much anymore (so that’s another reason to why I might not wear a seatbelt on that bus).

My state doesn't care, and some elementary students wear them, but we all learn our lesson to at least stay seated on a school bus, unless you are 2 seconds before stopping at your stop although you typically sit behind the driver, yes I was that student in highschool especially mid 11th grade till 12th grade, and how I got off my bus my 12th-grade bus diver could tell when I was sick because as an AuDHDer (autistic with ADHD) he never saw my ADHD energy and I have moderate ADHD, the combined type.

Unrelated story: A sub bus driver in my old district couldn't control her own child, and her child kept touching my things without permission, being lout too when I just needed to be left alone till I got off at times, and it was a 10-minute bus ride for me at the time. Her daughter just overstimulated me more. As in high school I was unable to have lunch at school on an early release because I don't like school food and as I said "it was a 10-minute bus ride, " so what was the point of making lunch when you can make a hot lunch at home in 10 minutes?

Once upon a time 2 semesters ago, I was nonverbal at the time either it was that bad at school with too much sound, and/or I was a hungry overstimulated autistic on an early release and my bus was late. Her daughter was too energetic worse than I was at her age, all up on on me, I was running my fingers through my weighted stuffed unicorn's main, and her daughter kept trying to take it from me after I forced myself to talk to explain my autism trying to mask for that 6 yr old girl multiple times. I gently moved her away not even scaring her then she started to pull it away from me, and eventually I was crying as she was hurting me physically, and as my bus was introverts, and/or too glued to their phone, my fellow former bus-mates were too chicken to help the popular deaf, autistic girl as they saw I was upset.

Ever since then, I said, "If America accepted 6-16 years of age to juvie (kid jail) she would be in jail for life for assault and battery on the popular, deaf, autistic girl, who is very nice to other students, and the staff of her school that is not ableist."

We didn't have seatbelt but when i was in school, our bus driver would purposely slam on the brakes, and we would go flying into the seat in front of us or if you was standing up then good luck.

Bus companies should put handles on the seats that don't have seatbelts.
