Saw the B 52'S September 11th, 1979 open for Talking Heads and October 2nd, 1980. Good times. Their 1st album came out July, 1979. Wild Planet, the 2nd album came out August, 1980.

I went to a b-52’s concert last month. This song was so amazing, I cried three times. I love Cindy soooo much!! They played channel z and mo-dean which were also pleasant surprises. I even ended up getting a signed copy of Wild Planet!

Best B52s ever, one of the best songs by anyone ever. I don't have a clue who had Cindy's man or why the ransom offering of fish, candy, and handful of what most likely was tacky Korvettes tschotske was refused, I must confess I am happy it was refused though. Had her man been given back, poor Cindy would not have gone stark raving mad on the beach that day, throwing candy and terrorizing beachgoers with her spinning round and round, and we would not have this beautiful song with Cindy singing her broken heart out. Must have been one hell of a man, though. But really, Love Cindy! Fred, Fred is another story. He is still jealous of my 'fish and candy' party jacket. Out festive his festive and he really holds a grudge.

I had already been on the B52s train for two years when I heard this song in 1980. It quickly became my fav, followed by Private Idaho. That beat and careening vocals both hide and accentuate the dark vocals. It reminds me of Jolene from Dolly Parton.
